In collaboration with the Government of Sindh, the SDGs Support Unit of UNDP organized a Validation Workshop on the Draft Sindh Rangelands Policy and Strategy 2026 at the Forest Complex, Karachi, hosted by the Sindh Forests and Wildlife Department (SFWD).
The workshop brought together representatives from SFWD, the Livestock and Fisheries Department, and UNDP to review the proposed policy framework for sustainable management of Sindh’s 5.76 million hectares of rangelands. Discussions focused on rangeland zonation, biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, ecosystem services, community participation, public-private partnerships, and nature-based solutions to address desertification and drought.
Participants also emphasized the importance of interdepartmental coordination and balancing ecological conservation with economic opportunities and cultural preservation.

Senior officials from SFWD appreciated UNDP’s technical support in developing the draft policy and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment towards its approval and implementation. The Department also announced plans to allocate PKR 100 million for the policy’s initial implementation phase in 2026–27.
The workshop marked an important step towards sustainable rangeland governance, climate resilience, and improved livelihoods across Sindh.
